Windows XP does not show IP address

There seems to have been a rash of computers coming into work with no IP address, subnet, gateway when you go into control panel > network connections > right click and status. The computers aren't getting a 0.0.0.0 or anything of the sort, the section is just blank. Netsh and LSP/Winsock Fix don't work. Found the fix on this page
Though I didn't have to follow it explicitly. All I really had to do was do a search for the tcpip.sys find a copy at a location other than c:\windows\system32\drivers and copy it to c:\windows\system32\drivers, overwriting the file that's there if its even present. Then I disabled and re-enabled the local area connection adapter and it got and IP. If the computer has more than one network adapter installed you may need to remove the extra adapter or disable it in bios as this repair won't work if there is more than one adapter active.
